Our Practitioners

Timothy P. Lacy, Certified Prosthetist, Clinical Director,  and President

Tim is the third-generation practitioner at La Torre Orthopedic with over 30 years’ experience.  He was introduced to the rewarding work of treating the physically challenged by his in-laws Dick and Kay La Torre.  Previously working as a Mental Health Specialist with a degree from Canisius College, he was intrigued by the O&P profession and the hands-on approach.   He was drawn to the idea of being able to treat a variety of disabilities through creating a rehabilitation plan and designing devices that would improve their quality of life.  After working at La Torre as a technician and assistant, the passion kicked in and he was accepted to Northwestern University's Prosthetics Program and later became ABC board certified.

Tim brings over 30 years of both clinical and administrative experience to his practice and patients.  He has been a very active and instrumental part of the O&P industry on both state and national levels.  He has served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years including becoming the youngest Director of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP).  He has always been very enthusiastic and driven to seek out new technologies and componentry to better treat his patients.  Tim led La Torre to being one of the first O&P practices in the US to implement CAD/CAM technology into the fabrication process of prosthetic and orthotic devices.  He was also one of the first prosthetists in the Capital Region to begin fitting microprocessor knee systems to patients.

In the late 1990’s, Tim took over as president and owner of La Torre Orthopedic and would later move the practice to Latham, a more central location in the Capital Region where it presently sits today.

Tim has had the pleasure of raising four wonderful children and privilege of working with all of them at La Torre throughout the years.  Now with the house empty, Tim resides with his wife out in Nassau with their two Labrador Retrievers, Indy and Raegan.  He continues to enjoy playing soccer year-round and golf whenever possible.  Regrettably, he is big Buffalo Bills fan

Zachary R. Lacy, Certified Prosthetist

Zachary is the fourth generation in his family to enter the O&P field. He has two brothers and a sister who he is very close with and who have all been a part of La Torre Orthopedic in one way or another. He was inspired to enter the field by both his grandfather, Richard La Torre, and his father. He has worked at La Torre since he was a young teen through high school, college, and graduate school. La Torre Orthopedic has been a part of every day of his life.

Zachary attended Western New England University where he studied health care administration and management and received his B.S.B.A. Immediately after undergraduate school, he attended Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, for his Orthotic and Prosthetic degree. Upon graduating, he did mission work in Guatemala, South America, where he treated amputee who otherwise would not receive prosthetic care.

Like his father, Zachary’s main focus and love is in prosthetics and working with amputees. Being the young, next generation in the family to come through, Zachary has become the cornerstone for new prosthetic technology and design in moving La Torre to the next generation of prosthetic intervention.

Zachary resides in Loudonville with his wife and black lab, Cosmo, and like his father, enjoys playing competitive soccer and golf.

Melissa M. Washco, Certified Prosthetist Orthotist

Melissa was inspired to enter O&P having a grandfather who sustained a shoulder disarticulation amputation. Although he was very independent, growing up around him, she saw the challenges that an amputee faces on a day to day basis, so she entered the field to help those in need.

Melissa studied Biomedical Engineering at Western New England University where she received her B.S.B.E. She then took an internship at Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield MA where she worked with pediatrics disabilities. This is where she learned and fell in love with the O&P field. She then attended Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, for her Orthotics and Prosthetics degrees. Upon Graduating from Northwestern, she completed her residency at University of Rochester Medical Center where she practiced for many years. In 2011, Melissa found her way back to the capital region and became part of the La Torre. She is an AAOP member and has advanced training in pediatrics, cranial remodeling helmets, and scoliosis bracing. Melissa brings great experience and expertise to La Torre with her Engineering and pediatrics background.

Melissa is born and raised in the greater capital region. Melissa and her husband live locally and recently had twins. They love to spend time with their new additions to their family and their dog Emma.
